Payne Park playground will be a construction site again as it will be closed starting today to install a shade structure. The playground, which partially opened in June, is expected to re-open on or before Dec. 14. The shade structure will cover the small children playground (ages 5-12) as well as the music area, providing relief from the sun as requested by residents after temperatures were found to be too hot on the plastic playground equipment. The installation will include the placement of support columns and cables and will require the entire Payne Park playground to be temporarily closed, according to the city. The unveiling of the new circus-themed playground at Payne Park coincided with the Sarasota Sports Festival on Saturday.
Kids of all ages got their first chance to clown around on the brand new circus playground at Payne Park during the first ever Sarasota Sports Festival on Saturday. Face painters and balloon benders from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey were on hand to pump up the circus spirit while Ringling Bros. performers led audiences in interactive, fitness-oriented CircusFit performances throughout the day. When kids and families weren’t hanging with the clowns, they also had an opportunity to play on the new circus playground, which had its unveiling during the Sports Festival. A circus-themed playground and the first-ever Sarasota Sports Festival will take place Saturday at Payne Park.
It's going to be a circus at Payne Park this weekend. Maybe not a full-blown big top, but with a new circus-themed playground set to open, circus performers helping celebrate and the Sarasota Sports Festival on Saturday, it's as close as you can get to the real thing. The playground will open Saturday — the same day as the first-ever Sarasota Sports Festival. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will perform several free interactive CircusFit performances throughout the day to celebrate the opening of the playground. Ringling Bros. will perform three free CircusFit shows near the playground at: 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. The performances will be interactive with the audience and include fun activities such as a laugh-a-thon, …
