Peanut Butter Plant to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Shut Down by FDA

The Sunland Inc. plant that distributes products to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Kilwins, Target and others is linked to Salmonella contamination that made at least 41 people ill in 20 states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products—sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Kilwins Quality Confections, and Target—had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded to include other nut butters as well as processed nuts and peanuts. Peanut Butter Recall Expands

Following a salmonella outbreak, Archer Farms, Trader Joe's and more brands of peanut butter and other nut products are being recalled.

If you've bought store-brand peanut butter or other nut butters from Target, Trader Joe's, or other major retailers this year, you may want to take it back for a refund or throw it away. Sunland Inc. of New Mexico has voluntarily recalled 101 products, including peanut butter, tahini, cashew butter, peanut butter cups, almond butter and more. The products "may be contaminated with Salmonella," according to the Food and Drug Administration. Last week, Trader Joe's recalled its Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter. Now Sunland is also recalling 16-ounce containers of Trader Joe's Almond Butter with Roasted Flaxseeds Crunchy & Salted and Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter with Roasted Flaxseeds, Crunchy and Salted.
