Bicyclist Killed By Oncoming Car

A 60-year-old Sarasota man was trying to cross South Tamiami Trail on his bike when he was struck by an oncoming car.

A 60-year-old bicyclist died after riding his bike into the path of an oncoming car Wednesday night, according to Sarasota Police. Sarasota Police Department responded to the scene Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. at South Tamiami Trail and Hillview Street where Bruce Alan Mason was struck by an oncoming car. Police said Mason was at fault. Mason was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries. The crash is being investigated by the Sarasota Police Traffic Unit. 7-Year-Old Critically Injured in Bike Accident

Troopers say a 7-year-old riding his bike is critically injured after he rode into the path of an oncoming Kenworth truck at University Parkway and Lockwood Ridge Road today.

A 7-year-old Sarasota child is in Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries this afternoon after a truck struck him at University Parkway and Lockwood Ridge Road. A Kenworth T800 truck driven by Tyler Bowser, 35 of Sarasota, drove on the right lane of University approaching Lockwood Ridge around 1:45 p.m. today while Isaiah Jackson rode his bike on Lockwood Ridge through the crosswalk on University, according to the Florida Higway Patrol. The bike continued into the crosswalk into the path of the truck while the truck's traffic light was green, Highway Patrol said. The truck braked but was unable to avoid Isaiah, who was not wearing a helmet on his Redline Roam bike, troopers said. About 151 feet of skidmarks could be seen on the road…
