Police Seek CVS Robbery Suspect

Sarasota police released the photos of a suspect who they said robbed a CVS on Monday.

Sarasota Police are asking the public for help in identifying a man who investigators say robbed a CVS, at 3709 North Tamiami Trail, on Monday morning. According to police, a store clerk was handed a note at the front register from a customer. "The note and the male demanded the money in the drawer, and the male implied he had a weapon," according to a press release from Sarasota Police.  The clerk gave the suspect cash, and he fled the store. Police say he rode off on a bicycle, traveling north. The suspect is in his 20s or 30s, and was wearing a dark knit type cap, dark jacket, and blue jeans.  A witness saw the perpetrator discard the bicycle and flee on foot. 30-Year-Old Victim Shot Multiple Times

The shooting occurred after noon Saturday on Pershing Avenue in Sarasota.

Sarasota Police are investigating the shooting Saturday of a 30-year-old man, in the 2500 block of Pershing Avenue. Wilfredo Pellot Jr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and was transported by a private vehicle to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Police drove to the scene shortly before 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, after receiving multiple calls about shots fired. Officers arrived within two minutes of the calls to 911, but the victim already had been taken to the hospital. Pellot was treated at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and then transported to Blake Trauma Center for additional treatment.  The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.  Anyone with information about the shooting of Wilfredo Pellot Jr. is asked to contact Detective …

Man Charged in 2003 Killing of German Woman in Sarasota

John Alan Mellquist, who was renting a room in Anneliese Schweickardt's Sarasota home at the time of her disappearance, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

A homeless man has been arrested and charged in connection with the 2003 murder of a German woman living in Sarasota whose body was never found, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office announced Monday. John Alan Mellquist, 53, was arrested Friday and charged in the murder of Anneliese Schweickardt, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Authorities say Mellquist rented a room in Schweickardt's Monte Rosso Road home, and that she was in the process of evicting him at the time of her disappearance. A missing person's case was opened in October 2003 when a childhood friend in Germany reported she had stopped receiving regular contact from Schweickardt six months earlier. Fourth Suspect Arrested In Home Invasion

Detectives say Brandon Albritton drove the other suspects to the victim's home with the intention of getting marijuana.

A 20-year-old man is now the fourth suspect arrested in a Saturday's Palm Terrace home invasion and robbery. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged Brandon Albritton, of no reported address, with one count of being a principle to a home invasion with a weapon. During the investigation of the Jan. 5 robbery, detectives received information from the other suspects the identity and involvement of Albritton, whose role the defendants said, was to drive them to the victim's house, Chad Strickland, to get marijuana, according to the probable cause affidavit. Two Arrested In Beating Of Man, Pregnant Girlfriend

Jason Ritenour and Cortland Johnson face aggravated battery charges for the Sunday night confrontation.

Two men with a violent history are facing aggravated battery charges for a beating Sunday night at the Shell/Circle K across from the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Jason Ritenour, 29, faces two counts of aggravated battery and Courtland Johnson, faces one county of aggravated battery for an altercation that sent a pregnant woman to the trauma center at Blake Hospital in Bradenton, according to Sarasota Police. UPDATE: Three Arrests Made In Saturday Home Invasion, Robbery

Three suspects invaded home on Palm Terrace and victim fought with one suspect until other two suspects ran away.

Updated 6:30 p.m. All three suspects in a overnight Saturday home invasion and robbery are now under arrest and in Sarasota County Sheriff's Office custody. Patrol deputies searched the neighborhood and found suspects fitting the description provided by the victim, according to the probable cause affidavits. The victim told deputies he was sitting outside his home smoking a cigarette when he was approached by three men in dark clothing around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on the 2000 block of Palm Terrace and all three men pointed AirSoft guns at the victim, according to the sheriff's office. Deputy Chases Burglary Suspect Through Sarasota Memorial Hospital

Burglary suspect crashes car into deputy's patrol car, fled, was later caught, and then escaped from Sarasota Memorial Hospital before being captured a third time.

A couple suspected in a burglary are facing multiple charges after crashing a car into a sheriff's deputy cruiser, fleeing authorities at the scene and trying to run away from Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 3500 block of Bahia Vista street at 3 a.m. Saturday for a physical altercation between a man and a woman and found James Gilliam, 32 and Tara Reed, 26, involved in an altercation in their car and asked them to exit the car, according to the sheriff's office.  Reed got out of the driver's side, but Gilliam refused to get out, jumped into the driver's seat, started up the car, and sped off, causing deputies to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, according to the sheriff's office. …

Couple Stops Suspected Car Burglars In Their Tracks

Couple followed suspects after catching them breaking into their car, and called 911.

An observant Sarasota couple caught two men attempting to break into their car Wednesday, leading to the suspects' arrests. Katie Hughes and husband Michael Wojculewski sat on their porch on Flower Drive at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday noticing two men walking down the street, as one stood by the road while the other broke into cars. It turns out, the men were breaking into the couple's car, according to Sarasota Police Department. The couple yelled at the suspects, who ran, and the couple attempted to follow them while calling 911, according to police. 23-Year-Old Charged In North Sarasota Shooting

A dispute between two 23-year-old men over money led to a shooting Monday morning.

A Venice man is facing an aggravated battery with a firearm charge following a shoot Monday morning in north Sarasota. Kevin Michael Kelly, 23, of 214 Malvern Drive, Venice, was involved with a dispute over money with 23-year-old David Morse when the two argued in the 2000 block of 13th Street in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Police Department. Kelly was inside a parked car while Morse was standing outside of the passenger door when Kelly shot through the open window, striking Morse, and then drove off after the shooting, according to police. Cattleman Walmart Theft Suspect Sought

Suspect stole laptops during both thefts at Cattleman Road Walmart.

A man suspected of stealing two laptops at the Cattleman Road Walmart is being sought by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office released two Walmart security images today of the suspect hoping that the public can identify the man. The incidents happened around 2 a.m. on both Oct. 17 and Oct. 23 and the suepect removed a security tag from laptops, concealed it in his pants and exited the store immediatey, according to the sheriff's office.
