SRQ Airport Wants Passengers To Pledge To Use Airport

SRQ Airport is launching a "Do You SRQ?" campaign for travelers to fly out of the airport when they can as the airport is also exploring to expand service and destinations.

Knowing that AirTran is set to end service in August, SRQ Airport officials are launching a campaign to keep passengers flying out of SRQ instead of Tampa or Ft. Myers. "It's not a lack of passengers going on aircraft that has hurt this community," said Rick Piccolo, president and chief executive of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. "It really is a level of competition. It's also the level of support of people willing to go to other airports." Piccolo announced a $130,000 campaign called "Do You SRQ?" where the airport hopes to have businesses and individuals pledge that they will check flight options first from SRQ when planning business travel. I use SRQ almost every time I fly.....I hate driving to Tampa and I prefer our smaller airport, less craziness. However, there are not always flights available that people need.   more ›

United to Add Daily Flight from Sarasota to Chicago

United's service will begin in November flying to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

Another airline is attempting to make up for lost flights from AirTran at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. United Airlines announced Monday it will launch service from SRQ airport to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) starting Nov. 4. AirTran was the only airline at SRQ to offer flights to Chicago, but those and other destinations serviced by the Southwest-owned airline will end Aug. 11. The once-daily service will operate using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 154 seats — 16 in United First, 48 in Economy Plus and 90 in Economy, according to the airline: "This new route complements United's existing service between Chicago and eight other cities in Florida," said Martin Kammerman, United's senior manager of new markets and …

Reiterating what others have said.....there are thousands of people in the NY/NJ/Ct. area who were very disappointed when Continental discontinued direct flights from Newark to Sarasota. Many of us who made several trip a year now make just one flight because of the added inconvenenience and expense of flying into Tampa. JetBlue Adds Daily Flights From SRQ To New York

Beginning June 11 JetBlue Airways will fly daily from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport to LaGuardia.

Beginning June 11 JetBlue Airways will fly daily from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport to LaGuardia Airport in New York. JetBlue announced the addition Monday as well as flights from New York to Ft. Myers and Tampa.
