Convicted of sexually assaulting a child from the time she was 3 until she was 6, the abuse actually continued for years afterward, Sarasota County detectives said Tuesday.
A sexual predator's abuse of a child continued for years after he was convicted, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. Jerald Gene Williams, 70, was convicted in 1989 of sexually assaulting a girl from the time she was 3 until she was 6. But the abuse actually continued until she was a teenager, detectives alleged Tuesday. The victim, who is now an adult, recently contacted detectives to report that Williams sexually assaulted her until she was 14 years old. Williams had been sentenced to community control but was not prohibited from contact with the girl, authorities said. Corey Raia, is facing several sexual abuse charges against three girls, and had faced similar charges in Manatee County in 2009.
A 49-year-old Sarasota man is facing sexual battery and molestation charges against his 4-year-old daughter and a set of 7-year-old twins, according to a probable cause affidavit and court documents. This is not the first time Corey Raia, of 2915 Lexington St., Apt. 15, has faced these charges against children, according to court records. Raia was arrested and charged for the latest case by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office on Nov. 13. On Nov. 4, one of the 7-year-old twin girls had told her mother that she and her sister were molested by Raia, according to the probable cause affidavit. A 24-year-old Sarasota man will spend his life behind bars after a jury found him guilty Thursday on six counts of sexual battery or a child. Jeffrey Hagen was arrested in March 2011 by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office in March 2011 for repeatedly sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl. Hagen then confessed to the crime when he was arrested, according to the sheriff's office. According to the State Attorney’s Office, Hagen will receive a mandatory life sentence in prison without parole.

I wish the judges or persons on the jury will figure out, at the time of sentencing, sexual offenders do not stop. Researchers have studied this for years and have conducted every type of treatment. It does not work. The only answer is to send them to prison for life without parole. Or to be a little forgiving, only if a first conviction, they can be released but have to have a GPS tracking …   more ›
