1. Greed and capitalism takes the stage at Asolo Rep this weekend with Glengarry Glen Ross. The show opens Friday at 8 p.m. and is directed by Carl Forsman, dean of the University of North Carolina School for the Arts. The show runs through Feb. 28. The play contains strong language and 30 minutes before each performance, Asolo staff members will host a talk on the mezzanine about the language the playwright employs and aims to put the language in perspective for audiences. Since its grand opening in October, the Bradenton Riverwalk has quickly established itself as the most happening place to be in Manatee County — and this weekend is certainly no exception. On Saturday, Realize Bradenton will launch one of its biggest blockbuster events of the year: the inagural Bradenton Blues Festival. And Sarasota, you're invited to the regional event. The festival is slated to be an all-day affair, kicking off at 10 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. Starting at 11 a.m., eight musical acts take their turn on the stage until the festival closes. 1. You just thought Ed Smith Stadium was for Orioles Spring Training, right? Well there is still baseball to be played in Sarasota. As the Gulf Coast League finished up earlier this summer, it's time for the Fall Instructional League to take the field, starting Sunday when they face Canada. The games are free and open to the public; the season ends Oct. 11. The Instructional League program focuses on specific individual development while providing additional playing time to accelerate a player’s progress through the minor league system. Games are played on the Main Field, with parking available in the East Lot at no charge. Fans may enter the ballpark through the East Gate.
