Two men with a violent history are facing aggravated battery charges for a beating Sunday night at the Shell/Circle K across from the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Jason Ritenour, 29, faces two counts of aggravated battery and Courtland Johnson, faces one county of aggravated battery for an altercation that sent a pregnant woman to the trauma center at Blake Hospital in Bradenton, according to Sarasota Police. Woman suffers serious injury while trying to help man being beaten at Shell/Circle K across from hospital.
Two people are recovering from injuries from an aggravated battery that took place in the Shell gas station parking lot across from Sarasota Memorial Hospital Sunday night. Sarasota Police arrived at the Shell/Circle K, 1801 S. Tamiami Trail, at 6:20 p.m. where a 43-year-old man was injured and sent to Sarasota Memorial for his injuries, and a 41-year-old woman who attempted to help the man was flown to Blake Medical Center for her injuries, police said. The helicopter was forced to land at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport due to weather conditions and the woman was transported to Blake via ambulance for the remainder of the trip. Charles Benfield was found unresponsive after a reported aggravated battery and died from his injuries.
The Sarasota Police Department is trying to find out who had battered a homeless man Wednesday, leading to his death. Police responded Wednesday at 5:33 p.m. for an agravated battery in the 1700 block of 10th Way where they found Charles D. Benfield unresponsive. Benfeld was Bayflighted to Blake Medical Center in Brandenton and recently died from his injuries, police said. These vagrants will be freed again by our lenient Sarasota Judicial system. Why were they out on the street when they had recent felonies for the same type of prior behavior?
