Two men on Lahania Drive phoned 911 to say that were holding a suspect inside the vehicle he was burglarizing.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an 18-year-old suspect for vehicle burglary after he reportedly was caught in the act by a neighbor. A man on Lahania Drive in Sarasota called 9-1-1 at around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to say that he and another man were holding the 18-year-old suspect inside a vehicle he had been burglarizing. Deputies arrived and arrested Austin Pokornik of Bali Drive, Sarasota. The man told deputies that he was awakened by his barking dog and saw Pokornik try the door handles of different vehicles in his neighborhood and entering those that were unlocked. Couple followed suspects after catching them breaking into their car, and called 911.
An observant Sarasota couple caught two men attempting to break into their car Wednesday, leading to the suspects' arrests. Katie Hughes and husband Michael Wojculewski sat on their porch on Flower Drive at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday noticing two men walking down the street, as one stood by the road while the other broke into cars. It turns out, the men were breaking into the couple's car, according to Sarasota Police Department. The couple yelled at the suspects, who ran, and the couple attempted to follow them while calling 911, according to police. A 24-year-old Sarasota woman is facing multiple vehicle burglary and credit card charges for a rash of incidents in August and September. Kristen Mandia, of 4151 Palau Drive, faces 13 charges for incidents in the past six weeks that include grand theft, burglary, larceny and fraud, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. Mandia was also listed at an absconded address at 2721 6th Ave. West in Bradenton, according to the sheriff's office, which she used for her parole from a previous burglary charge in Sarasota County, according to the affidavit.
