The popular craft and hobby store will host a grand opening for its new Sarasota location.
Hobby Lobby, a popular craft store coming to South Tamiami Trail and Beneva Road in Sarasota, will hold a grand opening Monday, May 20, the company said. The 56,000-square-foot craft and hobby store that will replace a Kmart at 8191 S. Tamiami Trail is one of more than 500 Hobby Lobby locations in the country. A new Bradenton Hobby Lobby will open the following Monday on Cortez Road West. The stores carry everything from furniture and vases to clocks, birdhouses and arts and crafts supplies. The Oklahoma City-based company is also known for its religious views as much as its crafts, with the family owning the world's largest collection of Biblical antiquities and operates Hobby Lobby "in a manner consistent with Biblical principles," …

Hobby Lobby on Tuesday announced that its new stores in Sarasota and Bradenton are expected to open in June. Hobby Lobby will replace the former Kmart at 8191 S. Tamiami Trail, with a 56,300-square-foot craft and hobby store. Construciton on the store began earlier this year. Hobby Lobby is based in Oklahoma City, founded by David Green, and has more than 500 stores in 41 states, and has been expanding recently, including Benderson properties in Bradenton and North Port's Cocoplum Village shops. Hobby Lobby expects to open mid-summer in Sarasota.
South Sarasota will get a new craft store when Hobby Lobby moves into the former Kmart at 8191 S. Tamiami Trail later this year. The Oklahoma City-based craft store confirmed with Patch on Monday that the store will open a 56,267-square-foot store in mid-summer. Herald-Tribune business reporter Justine Griffin first broke the news on Twitter Monday receiving confirmation from Benderson Development executives. "We feel that the market is underserved and that we can bring a very unique shopping experience to the Sarasota area," Vincent Parker, director of training and customer service for Hobby Lobby, told Patch.
