Florida Woman Driving High On Laughing Gas Leads Deputies On Chase

A Sarasota woman is facing multiple charges following a chase Monday morning on Bee Ridge Road.

A Sarasota woman is facing multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a chase in her Hummer, apparently high on nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged Kristina Grzep, 41 of, 9035 Misty Creek Dr., following what's described as a bizarre incident that ended on Interstate 75 this morning. Deputies received a call around 9 a.m., of a suspicious vehicle on State Road 72 and the Bee Ridge Road extension. When deputies arrived, Grzep fled, driving her Hummer H3 toward a deputy’s vehicle and forcing him to take an evasive maneuver, according to the sheriff's office. Grzep drove north on Bee Ridge Road and twice deputies successfully deployed stop sticks to deflate the tires but Grzep continued driving, …

Update: Missing Cattle Dog May Be in Tampa

"Doc," the specially trained cattle dog who works with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, may have been picked up by a passerby after he escaped in Sarasota and taken to the person's Tampa home.

A missing cattle dog who works with local law enforcement and was last seen in the Sarasota area may be in Tampa, officials said Tuesday morning. "Doc," a 60-pound, specially trained cattle dog who works for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, escaped from his special trailer Saturday on Interstate 75 near the Fruitville Road exit. A witness told Sgt. Ron Cain with the sheriff's office that a motorist pulled over and tended to the dog, giving it water and saying he was going to take it to his Tampa home. The witness said the dog had road rash from jumping out of the trailer but that he looked fine and was in good shape. Tough Mudder Causes Severe Delays On I-75, Clark Road This Weekend

Traffic delays are expected to last throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Updated 10:25 p.m. Interstate 75 experienced delays as far as 5 miles on I-75 South from the Clark Road exit due to today's Tough Mudder race, and several hourlong delays will return on Sunday.  The marathon race is taking place Saturday and Sunday at Hi Hat Ranch on State Route 72 (Clark Road). Delays could be possible again Sunday. Drivers can expect traffic backups between 6-10 a.m. Sunday morning, and again from 3-7 p.m. Sunday evening, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. Sarasota County Emergency Services officials recommend that travelers avoid the area through the weekend. Miami Man Abadons Car On Side Of Road, Considered Endangered

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is looking for Eduardo Jesus Lavado after his car was found on Interstate 75 on Wednesday.

Update Nov. 19: Deputies found Eduardo Lavado in good condition over the Nov. 17 weekend. Original: The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Miami man considered endangered after his car was found abandoned Nov. 7 on Insterstate 75. Eduardo Jesus Lavado left Miami on Saturday and his blue 2009 Nissan Sentra was abandoned on the southbound shoulder of I-75 near mile marker 201 between 1 and 2 p.m., Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office. The gas tank wasn't on empty. Lavado is 44-years-old, 5’ 10” tall and weighs 265 pounds and suffers from mental health issues, according to the sheriff's office. UPDATE: Southbound I-75 Reopens After 47-Car Crash

Crash injures 52 people, three flown out via Bayflite.

Update Oct. 6 12:03 a.m.: Southbound Interstate 75 has reopened after being shut down for six hours due to a 47-car crash injuring 52 people Friday afternoon near the Sarasota and Manatee County line. The Florida Highway Patrol closed southbound Interstate 75 at the 213 mile marker at 3:09 p.m., according to Sgt. Steve Gaskins of Florida Highway Patrol. The interstate reopened at 9:09 p.m. While rain storms contributed to the crash, charges are pending against several drivers as 12 separate collisions occurred, according to Highway Patrol. Traffic was re-routed onto University Parkway and detours were set up at SR-70, but traffic was reportedly backed up along U.S. 301 and other alternate routes as people attempted to avoid the mega-crash…

Gulf Coast Community Foundation will match up to $21,900 in donations to help animal shelters take care of the 263 dogs rescued in Venice.

Donations can be made through the Gulf Coast Gives website. So far $3,600 was raised, most of it Tuesday. 2.
