Is Your Neighbor Growing Marijuana?

A detective offers tips for figuring out whether a neighbor may harbor an indoor pot-growing operation in a house or apartment. Hint: It's the smell, not whether he or she is running out at all hours to buy junk food to satisfy the alleged "munchies."

A sister Patch site in Stow, Ohio, interviewed a local detective who advises folks to use a combination of Yankee common sense and old-fashioned sleuthing to figure out whether a neighbor who acts suspicious has an illegal indoor, home-based pot-growing operation. Grow house operations happen in Sarasota County, too. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged North Port man earlier this month for grow house operations at a North Port house where "60 newly cultivated plants and five pounds of recently harvested buds which were in boxes," according to the sheriff's office. In this case, the man, Jose Luis Fernandez, rented a house at 2703 Thomas Lane, which is a mile from his home, and converted the home into a grow house, …

People growing marijuana in small homes, and especially apartments & condos pose fire and crime hazards to neighbors. Anything other than small, personal growing is dangerous, selfish and stupid. I think marijuana should be legal like alcohol. I can't build a distillery in my house & start selling booze, or a pharmacy. Maybe the pot is dulling the senses?   more ›
