2 Men Hospitalized After Getting Struck While Crossing Bayfront Dr.

The two pedestrians were in a crosswalk but crossing against the light when they were hit Saturday night, Sarasota Police said.

Two pedestrians were hospitalized after they were struck by a driver headed north on Bayfront Drive on Saturday night, officials said. The two men, both in their 20s, were attempting to cross Bayfront Drive at Main Street around 11:45 p.m. when they were hit, according to Sarasota Police. They were in the crosswalk but were crossing against the light, according to a police spokesperson. Tyler Anderson was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injures, police said. Colton Sherwood was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police: Sarasota Woman Shot By Man in Camouflage, Ski Mask

The woman was chased into her North Orange Avenue apartment and shot several times Sunday night, Sarasota Police said.

A 22-year-old Sarasota woman is in stable condition after authorites say a man dressed in camouflage and a ski mask chased her into her apartment and shot her several times Sunday night. Sarasota Police officers responded to the apartment complex in the 1900 block of North Orange Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday following a 911 call about shots fired. When they got there, they found the victim on the floor of an apartment suffering from several gunshot wounds but still conscious, according to Officer Linda DeNiro, police spokesperson. According to the woman, she had been outside her home with friends when the alleged shooter came out from behind a duplex and began shooting at them. Police: Man Fired Assault Rifle in Dispute Over a Woman

Jacobe Jenkins is accused of opening fire Wednesday outside a Sarasota home; his sister, who police say drove him there with her toddler in the car, was arrested and charged.

Police are looking for a man who they say fired an assault rifle at another man in a Sarasota neighborhood following a dispute over a woman. Jacobe Jenkins is accused of opening fire outside a home in the 1800 block of 24th Street around 10:22 a.m. Wednesday. Sarasota Police say Jenkins pulled up to the home with his sister, Jasmine Jenkins, who was driving a green Dodge Magnum. Jasmine Jenkins, who police said also had her toddler in the car during the incident, was later arrested. According to the victim, Jacobe Jenkins got out of the car and fired several rounds at him as he was standing in the driveway with his brother. Police: Homeless Man Shoved Guard, Took Swing at Officers

Leopold Lake was arrested Wednesday night at a Sarasota bus terminal, officials said.

A homeless man is accused of shoving a security guard and taking a swing at police officers Wednesday at a Sarasota bus terminal, authorities said. Leopold Lake, 41, was arrested after officers were called to the SCAT Bus Depot, 1525 1st St., around 8:18 p.m. on a report of a fight in progress. When they got there, officials said, an SCAT security guard told them Lake had come to the terminal to try to get a bus pass after he had gotten into an argument with someone at City Hall. When the guard told Lake he did not have a pass, "Lake became loud, yelling at the guard" and then shoving him, Officer Linda DeNiro, police spokesperson, wrote in a media release. Gunfire Investigated By Sarasota Police

Bullet holes were found in the garage and fence of a home early Thursday morning, officers said.

Police are investigating a shooting incident early Thursday morning that left bullet holes in the garage and fence of a Sarasota home. Officers heard about four or five shots fired in the area of 24th Street and Osprey Avenue just after 12:30 a.m., according to a Sarasota Police Department media release. The officers were then flagged down by a woman who told them a white vehicle had sped from the area. Police were unable to locate the vehicle but found a bullet casing in the street in the 1700 block of 24th Street. Man, 19, Charged With Homicide After Body Found in Field

The arrest follows the March 14 discovery of Jovonne Corn's body in an open field on 19th Street in Sarasota, according to police.

A 19-year-old homeless man has been arrested and charged with with murdering a man whose body was found in an open field in Sarasota last month, authorities said Wednesday night. Kevin L. Peterson was arrested Wednesday afternoon by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, a Sarasota Police spokesperson said. He is charged with homicide in the death of Jovonne Corn, whose body was found the morning of March 14 in an open field behind an apartment complex at 1829 19th St. Information and tips helped detectives identify Peterson as the suspect, according to Officer Linda DeNiro, Sarasota Police spokesperson. No One Injured, 4 Schools Put on Lockdown in Sarasota Shooting Incident

The shooting occurred in the area of 24th Street and Osprey Avenue around 10:22 a.m., according to a media release. No one was injured. Emma E. Booker Elementary, Booker middle and high schools and Gocio Elementary were put on lockdown while police searched for a suspect, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports. “All students are safe,” district spokesman Scott Ferguson said in a call that went out just before noon to parents whose children attend the schools, according to the Herald-Tribune. Sarasota Home Invasion Robbery Investigated

Sarasota Police say they are not sure if the Saturday night incident at a Rilma Avenue home involving masked men is related to another home invasion that happened that night on 38th Street.

Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred Saturday night at a Sarasota home. According to authorities, two masked men entered a home in the 3800 block of Rilma Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday carrying weapons. The men demanded money and other items from three victims inside the home, then left. One of the victims, a man, suffered a cut to the back of his head when he was hit by one of the suspects, police spokesperson Officer Linda J. DeNiro said in a media release. New Sarasota Noise Ordinance Targeting Car Stereos Begins April 1

The measure is aimed at cutting down noise from car radios and sound systems within city limits.

Drivers who like to crank the radio up could find themselves in trouble starting Monday, when a new city noise ordinance targeting "unreasonable sound" coming from motor vehicles goes into effect. The measure is aimed at cutting down on noise from car radios and sound systems or other electronic or portable sound-making devices within city limits. If you fall outside of that demographic, then ordinances like this end up being used to target anyone who falls outside of that demographic. Masked Men Rob Home Recording Studio in Sarasota

The suspects, wearing all black clothing and black masks, demanded money from a group of people inside the 38th Street home Saturday, according to Sarasota Police.

Sarasota Police are investigating a home invasion robbery in which two masked men robbed a group of people in a home recording studio early Saturday morning, officials said. Five people were in the back recording studio in a home in the 1200 block of 38th Street around 1 a.m. Saturday when the two suspects, wearing all black clothing and black masks, entered with weapons, according to a media release.  The suspects demanded money and then left, police said. No one was injured. The suspects have not yet been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
